Did another prompt fill for an event that lasts the whole month and while I'm happy I wrote something as I haven't been writing much this week... Not too happy with it ngl. As much as I'm glad I did another prompt fill, I do wish I sat down and wrote it on time a few days earlier, as that would've been both longer and better. But what can I do now. Hopefully whatever I write next will be nicer.

Challenge 284:
HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS
A midsummer festival filled with dancing and flowers? A midwinter feast decorated with colorful lights? A solemn time for contemplation as the new year begins? Whatever the holiday, it’s often traditionally spent with family.

But family can be a tricky topic, especially when it comes to traditions. Do your heroes have somewhere to go home for the holidays? Maybe there’s a childhood home they look forward to visiting – or maybe they spend their holidays with their closest friends, and the home they built for themselves.

Write a story about coming home for the holidays.

BONUS GOAL: “I’m glad you’re here.”

If your submission features this line, it will earn an extra point to be tallied in voting!

Challenge ends Monday, December 29 at 9:00PM EST. Please note that this will be a two-week challenge!
• Post submissions as new entries using the template in the profile
• Tag this week's entries as: [#] submission, 284 – home for the holidays

cozy

How to play: Find the word in any WIP and comment with the sentence containing it. Just the one, ideally! The less context, the more hilarious & interesting it can be.

Rules:
- All fandoms, all ships, all writers welcome
- Give a head's up for disturbing/distressing content
- If you share a sentence, please read some left by other writers and drop at least one person a comment. (If you leave the first comment, thanks for starting us off, and we hope you'll pop back around later!)

Over the weekend I made a decision to switch to Linux Mint, since sooner or later, my laptop would probably force me to switch to windows 11, something I do not want to do due to the shitty AI and other useless stuff they'd push out on me. Official support for win 10 has ended, so at some point, Steam would stop supporting it too, which is one of the platforms I use for games, and that would make a problem for me. Not to mention the PC itself is on the older side (i got it in 2020 and not as a new one) so I'd be forced to buy another, and with the shit they're pulling on RAM now, I'd rather not get a new laptop with gb RAM while I already have that much here.

To not deal with window's shit any longer, I decided on Linux Mint, mainly because I've heard from people who use it that it's on the easier side when it comes to Linux operating systems. After a few days so far, I can say I am happy with my choice! Even if I'm not a that amazing with tech, I was able to get everything I needed without much of a fuss. I got Librewolf (my browser of choice) to work right away, I have everything I need for writing and steam works well as it can run on Linux, something that wasn't a case in the past from what I've heard. I do some times use Epic Games due to the free games they have, and I was able to find a work around as the store itself is not possible to run on Linux. The community of games really does care on making it easy to use it, even if the launcher is not a favourite one hahahah.

The only problem I'm still trying to solve is running my non-steam games that normally run on an .exe file, like Identity V and some pirated games. There are ways to do it, but I'm still figuring out, and last time I tried the other day the game did not work sadly. I should be able to get it to work sooner or later however, so that's important.

As everything was easy so far, I'd say Linux is not as scary as some people make it out to me. Mint is the friendliest one for beginners for sure, I'd say if you want to give up on windows this is a good option. I've searched only a few things and haven't had many major problems at this point in time. I will continue to monitor how things work, but so far, I'm happy with my choice to switch!

This week's prompt is counterfeit.

Your response should be exactly 100 words long. You do not have to include the prompt in your response -- it is meant as inspiration only.

Please use the tag "prompt: #473 - counterfeit" with your response.

Please put your drabble under a cut tag if it contains potential triggers, mature or explicit content, or spoilers for media released in the last month.

Apologies again for the delay on this! The laptop should be home tonight, so voting will close on time.

Here are the entries for this challenge:

List of entries )

Please Note: Because we only have 3 entries this week, there is only a First Place and Runner Up to vote for!

In order to vote, please reply to this post using the form provided. All comments are screened, and entries are listed in the order they were submitted. For your vote to qualify, you must fill out your entire voting card (both spots) in order to be counted. Winner votes are worth 2 points, Runner Up votes are worth 1 point. Meeting the bonus goal on an entry gets an extra point for that submission.

When voting, please copy/paste the ENTRY NUMBER and the FIC TITLE from the list above into the spot you're voting for (this prevents accidentally mis-numbering a vote and casting it for the wrong entry). It should look like this:

First Place: 61. Fic Title Here
Runner Up: 88. Another Fic Title

Please note that you cannot vote for your own entry, and that votes cannot be made anonymously. You do not have to be a member of the community in order to vote, nor have submitted an entry for this week; everyone is welcome to participate in the voting. IP addresses are logged to prevent duplicate voting.

Voting closes Wednesday, December 17 at 9:00PM EST.

Apologies for the lack of a voting post last night, folks - RL happened and I've been inconveniently computerless for a couple days. Post will be up as soon as I can sort it out on a work computer!

Have woken up to snow. Too lazy to make a pot of tea so have made a cup of Tetley's British Blend and am sitting in the winter writing room with tea candles and my beloved pineapple whip candle from the Magic Candle Co.

Today's plan is to work on my [community profile] smallfandombang entry and take it past 6k. I think I'll move up a scene I've been looking forward to, since I need to get them off of serious topics already. Posted 9k between two fics this weekend and feeling better about my year-end goal. I don't think the muse is going to be a complete draft by then, but I'll still aim to finish the bang fic.

Classical music today to accompany the snow.
